THERMOTHERAPY A local thermal procedure used in cases of chronic joint and muscle diseases, sometimes also for post-traumatic recovery or simply for the muscle relaxation, for example before a massage or therapeutic exercises.
The procedure has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. Warmth reduces muscle tensions, dilates blood vessels in the skin and subcutaneous tissue, improves reflectively blood circulation deeper in the muscles and joints and reduces pain. A combination of ozokerite (natural mineral wax) and paraffin is used for applications at the temperature of 39-42ºC. The adding of ozokerite to the paraffin keeps the mixture warm for a longer timer and the essential oils in ozokerite have a therapeutic effect. The duration of the procedure is 15 – 20 minutes.
Paraffin layer stimulates the blood circulation and moisturises and nourishes the skin. In case of joint problems, the paraffin therapy has muscle tension and pain reducing effect. Dry skin will become soft and get a healthy look. An effective therapeutic as well as beauty procedure.
Mud is the product of long-term organic processes, a sediment that can be found in the bays and lakes of Estonia. Mud is is rich in terms of micro elements, humus acids and other bioactive substances. That is also what gives mud its distinct smell caused by hydrogen sulphide.
We use naturally clean mud from Ermistu Lake with no preservatives nor perfumeries. The patient is covered with a 2 - 3 cm deep layer of warmed mud and wrapped in foil, sheet and blanket. The area around heart is left uncovered with mud. It is possible to have the procedure done for the whole body or only above or below the waistline. The duration of procedure is 15 – 20 minutes and then the person will take a shower without soap. We recommend an hour of rest in a warm room after the procedure.
Infrared radiation penetrates human tissue to the depth of 4 – 5 cm, therefore causing a profuse sweating effect. Sweating in an infrared sauna is nearly 3 times more intense than in a normal sauna, where the heat penetrates only to a depth of few millimetres of skin. It is also important, that the temperature in an infrared sauna is only 45 - 65 ºC, compared to the 80 – 120ºC in a normal sauna. Therefore the infrared sauna is also suitable for the elderly. It is not recommended to stay in the sauna for more then 30 minutes.
